5G is the newest mobile network technology and has the potential to make our lives smarter, safer, and more efficient. Vodafone 5G is the next generation of cellular network technology for both mobile and fixed wireless applications.
Even faster speed
5G allows mobile network speeds to be faster than ever, which can contribute to higher quality streaming, faster gaming and more real-time connectivity.
Increased network capacity
5G is capable of keeping more people connected online at the same time.
Lower network latency
5G has the potential to decrease the time it takes for connected devices to communicate with each other across the network.
5G approved device
You’ll need a compatible 5G approved device that is configured to our 5G network.
5G coverage area
You’ll need to be in a 5G coverage area. You can still use your 5G approved device in 4G areas.
Eligible Vodafone plan
To connect to Vodafone 5G, you’ll need to sign up to any of our current phone, prepaid or 5G Home Internet Plans.
While we continue to support you on our best ever 4G network, Vodafone’s 5G network is rolling out to selected areas in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth, Gold Coast, Central Coast, Wollongong and the Sunshine Coast. Within these cities, 5G is available in selected areas in 3000 suburbs.
1,000,000 customers already benefit from our 5G network with thousands more joining every week.
You can check 5G coverage with our coverage checker.
Vodafone will not charge its customers extra for access to our 5G network on our current phone plans.
As a global brand, we are also proud to say that our customers using $5 Roaming with a 5G approved device will shortly be able to enjoy 5G in a few of Australia's favourite overseas destinations such as Germany, New Zealand and China, with more countries being switched on soon.
2015
Vodafone Australia started a multi-year project to move most of our mobile network onto future-proof ‘dark fibre’ transmission.
2017
We embarked on a world-leading project to ‘virtualise’ our core network. By moving our network to the cloud, it will enable us to be more agile to respond to technology advancements, deploy services faster, and ultimately deliver a better user experience.
2020
The first Vodafone 5G sites are switched on in areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth.
2023
Vodafone’s 5G network is now in selected areas of more than 3000 suburbs across Australia.
Check out the specifications for our 5G approved mobile phones and tablets. Our 5G Home Internet Plans also come with a 5G Home Broadband Modem.
You can bring your own compatible 5G device to Vodafone on a SIM Only or prepaid plan. If you purchased a 5G device from another provider, you may not have access to our full 5G coverage. Check out our approved devices to see which have been tested and optimised for use on Vodafone’s network.
To get the optimal 5G experience available on your 5G approved device, we recommend swapping your old SIM for a new physical SIM or eSIM (if you have an eSIM enabled device). Head to our support page to find out how.
Our team will continue to support you on our best ever 4G network which will keep you connected while we roll out 5G across major cities.
Although 5G might not be available in your area, upgrading to a 5G approved device lets you connect to our 5G coverage in other areas where you might work or travel, as well as continuing to connect you through our 4G network.
Actual speeds may vary due to location and network congestion. Check out our 5G mobile phones or 5G Home Internet Plans.
Our 30 Day Network Satisfaction Guarantee.
If you’re a new customer signing up to a plan and you’re not satisfied with our network within the first 30 days, you can leave us. We’ll even refund any monthly plan fees or modem instalments that you’ve paid - just return your modem in its original packaging within 10 days of your claim. You’ll only have to pay for usage charges or charges for services not included in your plan, which were incurred up to when your cancellation is finalised. Only up to 9 connections for business customers. T&C apply.
30 Day Network Satisfaction Guarantee
These terms and conditions are only for personal accounts and business accounts up to 9 connections. For eligibility criteria and terms for business accounts with ten or more connections - call 135 888 for details.
Available if you’re a new Vodafone customer, approved for a postpaid plan only including Postpaid Mobile, Postpaid Mobile Broadband, 4G Home Internet and nbn®, and it doesn't count for upgrades or rate plan changes.
To make a claim, you can give us a call on or 1555 (if you are calling from a Vodafone device) or 1300 551 198 (if you are calling from a non-Vodafone device).
You'll need to return your new device(s), with all its original packaging and accessories within 10 business days of making the claim. We will discuss a return process that works for you when you contact us. You have to be sure that the device or modem is in good working order meaning undamaged and as it was when you took it out of the box. You’ll also need your proof of purchase (receipt).
You will only have to pay for excess usage charges, or charges for services that aren’t included in your plan (for example, roaming, international calls or calls to premium numbers) or if applicable a New Development Fee or other charges for call outs when there is a missed appointment or where no fault is found by nbn®, that you have incurred up to the date the cancellation is finalised or on the final day of your first billing cycle (if you are a SIM only month to month plan customer). It is considered finalised on the date you return everything, in original condition, to a participating network guarantee store, unless you are transferring your number or nbn® service to another carrier – in that case it will be finalised once everything’s returned and your number or nbn® service has been successfully transferred.
Under this guarantee, we can’t actually refund you for any additional accessories that you’ve purchased. If you decide you want to keep your device(s), then we'll obviously need you to pay for it – you’ll see this on your final bill.
If you purchased a modem outright as a Mobile Broadband customer or it was provided at $0 upfront when you stay connected for 24 months as an nbn® or 4G Home Internet customer, we’ll refund the cost of it when you return it in its original condition to a Vodafone store, within 10 days of your service being cancelled. If you’re adding a new service to your current Vodafone account, the 30 Day Network Satisfaction Guarantee only applies to the new service and not to existing services on the account – unless, of course, they are less than 30 days young themselves and also eligible.
If there are any credits on your account that have been given to you by Vodafone, they won't be refunded, exchanged or redeemable for cash when you claim.
Where you have an individual plan, the 30 Day Network Satisfaction Guarantee applies to a maximum of one mobile, one mobile broadband, one 4G Home Internet and one Vodafone nbn® claim per person per year. Where you have multiple shared plans, the 30 Day Network Satisfaction Guarantee applies to a maximum of one claim per plan on up to 10 claims per account, per person per year.
